Our founder Sara Beth Farney will be speaking at the Medical Tourism Congress event on the 22nd through the 24th of September at the Los Angeles Hilton. The event typically has about 2,000 attendees from around the globe, an abundance of networking opportunities, and a very diverse group of speakers touching on various topics related to Medical and Spa Tourism. The topic to be discussed by Sara Beth will be a look into hybrid relationships of for-profit and non-profit organizations, cause marketing strategies for the medical and med spa industries, the psychological effects of cause marketing on consumers and company employees, and how to pick a cause that best benefits the altruistic needs of a company or medical practice. The Gorillaz (the band) played in Denmark at the Roskilde Festival recently and decided to donate some of their profits from the event to Facing Africa. Thanks to all the attendees that came out to the festival the Gorillaz were able to donate $30,000 to help individuals in need of facial reconstructions due to the effects of Noma. Thank you Gorillaz for your much needed and appreciated support!
In March of this year, this little girl, Mistekima, received a facial reconstruction given by Facing Africa. Previous to her surgery, she cloaked her face with a scarf every day to hide her face, all because of a disease (Noma) that is caused by severe malnutrition. Thanks to Facing Africa, and funding from people just like you, she is now able to live a more normal life and walk out into the world “uncloaked”. To donate to the facial reconstructions if children living with the effects of Noma, please click on the donate tab at the top of the page.
After many emails exchanges with Facing Africa and BBC, we are proud to announce that the BBC documentary Make Me A New Face: Hope for Africa’s Hidden Children is now posted in seven parts on Youtube. In fair warning, there are some parts of the documentary that are extremely graphic and may be a little uncomfortable to watch. However, we strongly feel that this documentary gives a clear and truthful vision of the work that is being done in Ethiopia to help victims of Noma. To donate to this cause please visit our donation page by clicking “Donate” at the top right corner of this page.

>Medical supplies and funding for surgeons to Addis Ababa to reconstruct the faces of individuals currently suffering from the effects of Noma and other facial disfigurements
>Events to increase awareness about Noma and and increase the amount of createACTivity donors
Last Thursday evening createACTivity had the pleasure of attending Dr. Tim Neavin’s office opening in Beverly Hills to promote our organization and raise awareness about Noma.
Thursday was a successful night provided that the opportunity was given to educate about 100 people about a disease that they had never heard about before. Several contacts were gained that want to help the cause, and we very much look forward to connecting back with them to see how they might be able to help raise awareness. Regardless of the outcome, about 100 or more people who knew nothing about Noma, now are awakened to reality of a disease that can be prevented simply by having the bare essentials of what allows us to live, food and water.
Thank you Dr. Tim Neavin for allowing us the opportunity to share our story with your fellow surgeons, vendors, patients, and friends.
Thanks to an amazing team of surgeons, Mistekima’s swelling is beginning to go down, and her recovery process is going well!! Sending her good thoughts for a quick and easy recovery period!
